At the 14th interview of Prime Minister General Surayud Chulanont, entitled "An Open house of Baan Phitsanulok" from the special location of Baan Kangpo, Tambon Numkum, Nakhon Phanom, North Eastern Part of Thailand, aired on Channel 11 and Radio of Thailand August 11, 2007, the Prime Minister spoke on several topics such as:

The duty of the Prime Minister to lead the country through the crisis: The Prime Minister said that in his work he focuses on goals and how to get there. The PM made a commitment to lead the country though the crisis and to hand off the work to the elected government which will be elected at the end of this year. The Prime Minister hopes to see at least 60 per cent of the people come out to exercise their right to vote in the draft constitution. In regard to some of the rumors related to the public referendum such as vote buying, the PM said that he still believes in the peoples' judgment and that they will perform their duties well as Thai citizens. This is the first time that a public referendum will occur in Thailand and the government has tried to accommodate and help the participation of the people on the draft constitution day establishing August 20, 2007 as an official holiday.

The happiness in the theory of sufficiency economy: The Prime Minister said that the government applies the theory of sufficiency economy in the strategy of Yudee Meesuk, Healthy and Happy Living which includes two parts. One is Yudee meaning the physical being, something visible to see such as better living conditions. The second is Meesuk or happiness which is a difficult one to judge can be realized if all of family members are living together in the traditional Thai way of life. Being debt free is also a key to Yudee Meesuk strategy when people live within their means and don't create debt. This way to create happiness in the family is to stay together. In the theory of sufficiency economy the people need to understand the definition of "¾Íà¾Õ§" "sufficient". The government has tried to introduce His Majesty the King's ideas of sufficiency economy to the people of Thailand and can see the improvements such as farming methods being changed from mono-crop to utilize more integrated farming methods, and rubber plantations in the NE provinces such as Mukdaharn, Kalasin and Nakhon Phanom to create more opportunity for farmers to stay home with their family for at least 8 months of the year. The PM also mentioned "à¢éÒ㨠à¢éÒ¶Ö§ ¾Ñ²¹Ò" "Understanding Mutual Respect and Development" being an important concept to utilize. This method encourages all sectors to be sincere, straight forward and honest with each other in order to resolve the problems in society.

Personal decision for former military official to enter politics: The Prime Minister said that it depends on the individual whether or not to enter politics after their duty as a military official. He then mentioned Lord Buddha's teachings, as Lord Buddha once said people are like leaves in the forest. On the surface they may all look the same but upon closer scrutiny each has its own character.

Listening to the suggestion of the Minister of Defense in the process of selecting Commanders in Chief of the Armed Forces: The Prime Minister said it is the duty of the PM to listen to the comments and suggestions of the Minister of Defense. The Minister of Defense will listen to the suggestions of the Commander in Chief of each branch of the armed forces regarding selecting new Commanders in Chief of each branch of the Armed Forces. As for the Commander in Chief of the Army position, it will include three nominees. The Prime Minister mentioned that although some of the media favor him and others don't it is normal for people to have differing opinions.

The possibility of differences of ideas occurring: The Prime Minister said more in regards to military officers entering politics after completing their duty in the military. Once military officers have left military service they are ordinary Thai citizens. They are no different from doctors, businessmen and engineers all of whom have equal rights to play a part in political roles. In regard to the differences of ideology in politics, the PM said it is normal to have different ideas because all of us are human. It is how we accept the differences however; that is the key. We must not allow differences in ideas to lead us to crisis. We should not repeat history by fighting each other. All of us should pitch in and help each other like brothers and sisters and understand that Thailand is our land. The interviewer asked about two books: "Thaksin: Where Are You?" and "Thaksin 24 Hours". The Prime Minister said that he heard they are good books but didn't have a chance to read them yet.

Helping to find a capable person to lead and take care of the country: The Prime Minister mentioned that the speech of His Majesty the King several years back is still accurate today. In the speech His Majesty said that society includes good people and those who are not. If we want our country to prosper we need to select good people to lead our country. The PM said that a good person doesn't need to be extremely smart but capable enough to lead the country in to prosperity.

The best way of risk management is to ensure accurate and up to date information: The Prime Minister said in regard to the current economic situation in the country that economic studies and economic methodology is not only one fixed formula but depends on various factors. The person responsible needs to monitor economic trends with updated information and be capable of analyzing economic situations, particularly in the globalization era. It is also necessary to follow with updated with information which can be found on the Internet. An official who directly takes care of all these tasks in this CEO style manner is quite well known in the United States. This method cannot however; be used to run the country. The country cannot afford to be put at risk in that way. The best way for risk management is to scrutinize the right information. The current situation of management is to have economic stability. " àʶÕÂÃÀÒ¾" "stability" means change will not happen in the short-term. If change occurs quickly and only in the short period of time it will create a great impact on the whole picture of economics in a big way.

Understanding the Foreign Business Act: The Prime Minister said regarding the questioning of the foreign business act which approved by the cabinet and enter to the National Legislative Assembly, but some of the committee raise that is may be better to scrutinize the which the  issues to be sorted out will be the definition of foreign companies, the question of management control, and the list of protected professions and investment sectors more than what it has been done in the past which because before this bill was submit to cabinet the government has gathered information and  has been discussed and talked over about this before submitting however the Prime Minister said he talked to the Minister of  Commerce that the government will wait to hear from every sectors in regard to this

Opening a longong market in China: The Prime Minister said the over production of agriculture especially fruit is up more than 50 percent this year. This includes: longong, mangosteen, rambutan, and longan. The government has prepared for this situation. The Prime Minister said that he has discussed this issue with the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Minister of Interior and that it has been decided to bring longong to China's markets as a halal food product of Thai Muslims in the China Halal Food Fair. It does not mean we will transfer all of the longong to sell in the Chinese market.

Having accurate information to help make a decision: The Prime Minister said that he couldn't tell if the draft constitution will pass in the public referendum. The government needs accurate information in order to be able to forecast the count and currently there is not enough information to do this. Recollecting back to his early days leading the country the Prime Minister said he now sees the light at the end of the tunnel and is hopeful in several areas, both personally and politically for the country. In the democratic system under the Monarchy, an official election will be held to determine who will be elected and it is up to the people’s judgment. We can only hope that the public will select the highest quality person especially in this auspicious year of royal celebration on the occasion of the 80th birthday of His Majesty the King. All of us should dedicate ourselves and send best wishes to His Majesty the King by continuously applying his philosophy to our lives.

Laying a foundation for political development in democracy: The Prime Minister shared two principles including obeying the law and keeping moral beliefs which people can apply in the next official election, and the PM said that government has tried to strengthen the democratic system which should be enforced to create a strong foundation for the next elected government. This includes the Political Development in Democracy Project which will establish the Council for Democratic Reform to continuously monitor the widespread corruption of independent agencies that were subverted by politicians. The interviewer asked what the PM will do after the end of his duties as Prime Minister. The PM said that he will be an ordinary Thai citizen living in the countryside rather than the city where he is familiar with the surroundings having spent most of his childhood years.

Maintain honesty and loyalty: The Prime Minister said that his moral principles are simple and include honesty and loyalty. If one utilizes these principles in their life it will also cover the five commandments of Buddhism as well. The Prime Minister also said that he tried to find time to meditate depending on the readiness of his physical being, his mind and the location. Some people are able to meditate anywhere and at anytime. The interviewer asked the Prime Minister if he thinks the new leader will apply the theory of sufficiency economy to the benefit of the people. The Prime Minister replied that the more people understand the principle of the theory of sufficiency economy and know that it is the best alternative the more difficult it will be for the government to change the people's view. The Prime Minister said that what he wants to see more than anything else is whatever is most beneficial to the people and the sustainable development of the country. This government or any government should respond to the need of the people.
