PM : Thailand Women's National Volleyball Team brought fame to the country (10/7/2012)

Prime Minister admired and was proud that Thailand Women's National Volleyball Team helped increase the good reputation of Thailand, mentioning that the government would continue to support the athletes.


At the  Purple Room, Thai Khu Fa building, Government House, Mr.Somporn Chaibangyang, President of Thailand Volleyball Association led the Executive Committee of Thailand Volleyball Association and Thailand Women's National Volleyball Team met with Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister.

The President of Thailand Volleyball Association summarized the past competition results of Thailand Women's National Volleyball Team that Thailand Women's National Volleyball Team had participated in the Olympics 2012 pre-qualification round in Tokyo, Japan between May 19-27, 2012 by beating the world class teams such as Serbia, Cuba, and Chinese Taipei and almost had a chance to participate in the Olympic Games.

Thailand Women's National Volleyball Team had also participated in the pre-qualification round of Female Volleyball World Grand Prix 2012 in Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. The Thai National Team beat the world class teams and passed through the final round in Ningbo, the Republic of China during the competition between June 8-28, 2012. According to the competition result, the Thai National Team was in the fourth place, which was considered as the best achievement of a Thai National Team ever made. Thailand Volleyball Association had always received good support from every sector, both government sector, State Enterprises, educational institution including the good moral support from the Thai people.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister gave a speech to cheer up the team, that she admired and was very proud that it helped build the strong reputation of Thailand in terms of efforts and discipline during practice, competition, as well as dedication in both physical strength and inner strength. The Prime Minister said they did not have to regret for not qualifying in the Olympic Games because at least, we were in fourth place in the Female Volleyball World Grand Prix 2012 which was considered as the great pride of Thai people. The government was ready to render support for future development.

In the meantime, the representative from PTT Pcl also granted assistance in the amount of Baht 1.90 million to the Thailand Volleyball Association.
