Thailand-Australia Promote Relationship at the Governmental and People Levels through Cooperation and Tourism (10/7/2012) Today at 16.30 hrs, Ms. Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Minister for Home Affairs, the Commonwealth of Australia paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at the Ivory Room, Thai Khu Fah Building , the Government House on the occasion of visiting Thailand as a guest of the Ministry of Interior during 8-10 July 10, 2012, gist as follows.

The Prime Minister welcomed the Minister for Home Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia on the occasion of visiting Thailand and believed that the visit would develop closely relationships and cooperation between the two ministries. Moreover, she was pleased that the Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Cooperation Promotion on Internal Security with Thai Royal Police would be signed during this visit. The Thai government was pleased that both countries have had close relationships and cooperation in all levels and Thailand also aimed to further develop bilateral cooperation.
On this occasion, Ms. Johanna Mikl-Leitner commended the Prime Minister as the first Thai woman leader. Currently, more women assumed important positions in the Australian government, including the Minister for Home Affairs. Both parties were pleased that more women role had been supported and would be parts of further women development promotion.
Besides, various topics were discussed, especially tourism cooperation which the Australian Minister for Home Affairs said that last year the number of Australian tourists travelled to Thailand increased 100,000 per year out of the total 8,000,000 Population. The Prime Minister was pleased that the number of Australian tourists increased every year, and confirmed that the Thai government has given utmost importance to the safety of tourists. TheTourist Service Center at Suvarnabhumi Airport is opened 24 hrs. a day , 7 days a week. If there is any urgent problem about tourist, the Australian Embassy can directly contact the Thai government and the Royal Thai Police. Australia was ready to have more cooperation with Thailand such as Environmental Conservation Project and the exchange view on disaster experience which Australia also encountered with disaster damage, and would like to thank Thailand for giving importance to Australian tourists and cooperation between government agencies. |
