Science minister invites water management experts to help plan Thailand’s water management plan (3/7/2012)

On July 3, 2012 at 12.30 at the media center, the government house after the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Science minister Dr.Plodprasop Suraswadi revealed about the water management plan as follows:


The TOR which will be used to select both domestic and international companies specialized in water management will consist of Thailand water management plan as considered by Strategic Committee for Water Resources Management and the cabinet including Chaopraya basin (8 basins of river) and 17 other basins. Today will be the first day of publicity through newspaper, radio and television while for international companies the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide information through the embassies and send direct information to each company. From next Monday onwards, interested companies can receive the TOR at the Ministry of Science or Water and natural disaster policy and management office. After that interested companies can propose the conceptual plan for selection which will take 1-3 months. The committee will select the best 3 companies before filtering down to 1 best company which will be given the opportunity to develop detail design. The whole process will cover 14 mega projects with the value of THB 30 billion.

THB 30 billion budget was set to solve Thailand’s long term and short term water management problems. For the THB 35 billion loan, THB 4 billion has been disbursed to related units such as Ministry of Transport, Department of Highways, Department of Rural Roads, Royal Irrigation Department, Department of National Park, wildlife and natural conservation and Royal Forest Department to invest in emergency projects. Moreover, THB 1 billion is kept by Dr. Veerapong Ramangkul, Chief of the Strategic Measures for the Country's Rehabilitation, to restore economic infrastructure affected by the flood.
