PM Yingluck Shinawatra’s speech on the visit of the National Thai Teachers Profession Association to support the prime minister at Santi Maitri building, the government house on July 2, 2012 at 9.50 am. (3/7/2012)

Dear Prime Minister’s Office Ministers, leaders of Thai teacher profession and all the teachers gathered here today.

First of all, I’d like to thank you every teacher and related organizations for your continuous support. Your support encourages us to keep working for the Thai people. Since we assumed the position, we have faced various challenging problems starting with natural disaster and economy to political conflict. However, we would like to reconfirm here that the government will do our best to solve the problems and is ready to work with all organizations and stakeholders. Apart from being the leaders of the National Thai Teachers Profession Association, all the teachers here still have the important role to clarify all the issues to the organizations, students and the public. The most significant thing is how to clarify to build confidence in Thailand. All the conflicts can happen but we must not let those conflicts destroy our unity. It is confidence and unity that enable this government to pass through all obstacles in the last 7-8 months.

For the civil servant welfare fund, I have assigned the Ministry of Finance to take care of the issue. The ministry will closely monitor the fund to ensure that we have provided appropriate welfare to civil servants corresponding to the government’s policy. We’ll look after civil servants even after retirement since these people have attained the knowledge and capability which can help support the country.

Finally, I’d like to thank you the National Thai Teachers Profession Association and all the teachers again for travelling to the government house to support me and the government. I’ll pass this support to the cabinet to heighten their spirit to continue the work for the benefit of the Thai people and Thailand. I wish everyone a successful life and hope all your wishes come true. For those who come from provincial area, have a safe trip home. Thank you very much.
